How To Become a USSF Referee...

To become a US Soccer referee you must attend the appropriate entry level training course and pay the registration fee.

There are two entry level referee grades. Grade 9 Recreational Referee and Grade 8 Referee

Grade 9 Recreational Referee
Recreational Referee may officiate as a center referee in any USSF recreational match for ages U14 or below. A Recreational Referee may also officiate as an assistant referee in any USSF match (recreational or select) for ages U14 or below.

Criteria for certifying as a grade 9 Recreational Referee:
    No minimum age.
    Successfully complete the 8 hour USSF Recreational Referee Entry Level Clinic.
    Score a minimum of 75% on the USSF Recreational Referee exam.
    As of January 1, 2007, the Recreational Referee Entry Level Clinic fee in Kentucky is $40.00

Grade 8 Referee
Referee may officiate as a center referee or assistant referee in any USSF youth match. (Recreational or select)

Criteria for certifying as a USSF grade 8 Referee:
    No minimum age.
    Successfully complete the 17 hour USSF Referee Entry Level Clinic.
    Score a minimum of 75% on the USSF Referee exam.
    As of January 1, 2007, the Referee Entry Level Clinic fee in Kentucky is $45.00

After successful completion of either entry level training course, game assignments will be made by your local assignor. Assignments will be based on your experience and demonstrated ability.

Annual Recertification Of Your License Is REQUIRED

Renewal requirements:
    Attend annual 5 hour re-certification training clinic.
    Score a minimum of 75% on the appropriate refresher exam.
    Pay annual registration fee.

As of January 1, 2007, the Kentucky annual registration fees are $30.00 for Grade 9 and $35.00 for Grade 8.
